Loraine Nicole Meek

Loraine Nicole Meek is a writer and homeschooling mom of three from Northern California. She enjoys exploring nature and traveling with her family as well as learning about and taking care of animals, which led to the idea of this book series. “When God Made…” celebrates the animal world in light of creationism. Her hope is that we’re able to teach children about all the marvelous things in nature while not only including, but celebrating that life itself was created by a loving and artistic God.

Where It Began:

Passionate Animal Lover

I've always been a passionate animal lover! When I was young, I spent my Saturdays engrossed in The Discovery Channel, deepening my knowledge and love for the animal kingdom. As soon as I turned 16 and was old enough to volunteer, I spent my free time at a local wildlife rehabilitation center, an experience that solidified my awe and respect for animals. I continued to work with animals throughout my teens and twenties, rehabilitating birds at International Bird Rescue and aiding in adoptions at the local SPCA. Additionally, I dedicated my time to helping children ride horses at a nearby Equestrian Center. My journey as a passionate animal lover has fueled my dedication to wildlife rehabilitation, education, and advocacy, thus laying the foundation for my lifelong commitment to sharing the wonders of the animal kingdom with others.

A Dedication to Teaching

In my early 20's, I embarked on a new journey when I joined the Education Department at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom. There, I led field trips, facilitated sleepovers in the Shark Experience, and taught guests about sea life. My focus primarily revolved around educating visitors about marine mammals and sharks. However, when my husband and I decided to start a family, I eventually left this position to homeschool our three children. For the past ten years, I've loved teaching our children about the wonders of God's creation and sharing my love for animals and the world around us! While participating in charters and co-ops, I gained priceless experience helping children connect with nature and learn in a hands-on, passionate way.

A Passion for Songwriting

Outside of my love for nature and family, I’m also a singer-songwriter. I’ve performed at various venues across Northern California, including festivals, restaurants, and coffee houses. From there, I developed a desire to combine my passions for animals, faith, melodies and rhymes! This led me to start my faith-based children's book publishing company, Fifth Day Press. The company's name reflects my belief in the wonders of God's creation. I began with a focus on sea life, including whales, dolphins, and sharks, with plans to grow from there!
